Welcome to Bus Pass Heaven |

|
|
Like many, we received our new bus pass shortly after April 1st 2008. This, we knew, enabled us to travel throughout England for no cost as long as we stuck to the rules.
A quick search on the Internet, a quick Google, produced no substantial information apart from that issued by many local authorities throughout the country.
Hence "Bus Pass Heaven" which will now be your one-stop shop for anything and everything to do with the new style bus passes. Here you will find details from all local authorities, here you will find the best way to travel around and here you will find favorite routes and bus trips submitted by other "Bus Pass Heaven" members. Join the forum and share info and trips with others but... most of all, ENJOY

Now wait five more years to get your bus pass: Millions face means test to get free travel
Millions of pensioners will have to wait an extra five years for a free bus pass under secret plans to cut their perks.
Transport ministers plan to save money by quickly raising the age at which older people get free travel from 60 to 65.
The Mail has learned that plans to bring in the change during the next couple of years will be submitted to the Treasury today as part of the Government's effort to make savings of up to 40 per cent in departmental spending.

Torbay MP Adrian Sanders will tomorrow press the Transport Minister to put an end to the complicated funding structure for the free bus pass, which has seen Torbay Council lose millions of pounds in recent years.
Adrian has been selected to quiz Transport Ministers in the House of Commons on Thursday 17th June for their monthly question time and will argue that the concessionary bus scheme, which provides free travel to pensioners and the disabled, should be administered nationally.

Beeching Style Cuts |
|
|
|
Some bus fares could rise by 10%, many routes could be cut and many jobs lost if a government grant system falls victim to cuts, it has been warned.
Local authorities, bus operators, transport campaigners and unions have written to Transport Secretary Philip Hammond.
They fear that a decision to scrap the Bus Service Operators Grant (BSOG) which rebates bus operators for the fuel duty they pay in running local registered bus services could be made in weeks. The grant also covers many rural, school and socially-important services.

Bus stop timing system extended |
|
|
|
A bus stop "live" time information system is set to be extended across much of south east Scotland.
Travel group SEStran has won more than £850,000 to roll the scheme out from Edinburgh into East Lothian, the Borders and Fife.
The £2.3m project will let passengers see how long they have to wait for any given service while standing at a stop. Once installed bus operators will be responsible for the maintenance of the scheme.
The new system will integrate with the existing Bustracker technology, allowing commuters to Edinburgh from other local authority areas to get up-to-date travel information.
Russell Imrie, who chairs SEStran, said the Real Time Passenger Information (RTPI) system could make a major difference to bus passengers.
"RTPI will give travellers a real boost and put them back in charge of their journeys, through access to real-time information," he said.
"SEStran has been very fortunate to succeed in acquiring such substantial funding from the EU.
"We will continue to seek further funding, for additional projects, wherever possible." |
