Arriva 191 - Chatham to Grain |
A long (about 1 hour) ride into a remote and little known corner of Kent. Through Rochester, Strood, Hoo, and High Halstow to the 'failed' seaside resort of Allhallows and the strange village of Grain - about as remote and obscure as you can get whilst being close to London.
Look out for views across the Thames estuary to Southend on Sea and also the remarkable Grain Fort on it's own island approached by a causeway at low tide. Buses are usually double-deckers and they run every hour to Grain. If you time your journey carefully on Monday to Friday you can travel one way by the infrequent route 794. This goes from Chatham to Grain via the Medway Tunnel and avoids Rochester.
